We’ve recently re-launched ‘Bottomless Sundays’ at Big Chill House. Now offering two hours of unlimited Mondo Rider Pale Ale or Portobello Brewing Co. Pilsner, plus one of our tasty homemade pies and mash. So when the Mondo guys invited us for a tour and tasting session at their South London brewery in Battersea, to get more accustomed with our brunch beer, we jumped at the chance.
Part one of our afternoon session, in their beautiful tap room was led by the awesome duo, Andy and Jack . Here we got to sample Mondo’s core range of beers and learn about the interesting stories behind each of them.
Being music based venues we have a soft spot for all of our brand partners that share the same passion. So we loved learning about how Mondo started out exclusively naming each beer with witty music puns, our personal fav was ‘Steamy Wonder.’ With so many beers to name, they later branched out taking influence from whatever took their fancy or made them smile at the time. A good example of this is when they enlisted the help of social media celeb ‘Jim’ll Paint It’ to design a label. They had an epic designer, an epic tasting beer and an epic label on the way but no name, until one of the brewers simply said ‘Lets call it Unicorn Whisper; and as they say the rest is history.
Mondo’s commitment to producing high quality beer, in a huge range of styles is evident from their tap room, which by the way is definitely worth a visit. They have 15 taps showcasing their core range, seasonal brews, tap house exclusives and unique guest beers.
It’s fair to say that the Big Chill team made their way through the fair few beers on offer. However before we began enjoying ourselves too much, it was time for part two of our afternoon session. Which was the brewery itself, so we could see first-hand where all the brewing magic happens. We were so grateful to be taken on a tour by co-founder Todd Matteson!
The brewery is a sight you have to see in person. The equipment is commissioned and installed by a Hungarian manufacturer and made from Sheffield steel. We were all blown away by the technology and efficiency of their set up. We were also excited to learn that the brewery is soon to be increasing their production by whopping 80%!!!
Our tour covered everything, from how the raw ingredients come into the building to the finished product getting bottled.
We ended the afternoon with one final Rider Pale Ale (would be rude not too). Before making our way back to Big Chill House to share with our customers just how great Mondo beer is.
Huge thanks to everyone at Mondo for a great afternoon, make sure you ask our team about the Rider Pale Ale and our general range of London craft beers on offer at Big Chill House, or better yet, book in for Bottomless Sundays here and try for yourself!
